Why Hawaiian Roll Turkey Sliders Are The Best Choice
When it comes to crafting the perfect turkey slider, the choice of bun is paramount, and Hawaiian sweet rolls stand head and shoulders above the rest. Here’s why they are the undisputed champions for this recipe:
- **Perfect Sweet-Savory Balance:** The signature sweetness of Hawaiian rolls provides a delightful contrast to the savory elements of turkey, stuffing, and cheese, creating an irresistible sweet and salty flavor profile that will keep everyone coming back for more. This unique blend elevates the humble slider to a gourmet experience.
- **Effortless Preparation:** Hawaiian rolls are ingeniously designed for sliders. They come in a connected sheet, allowing you to slice the entire batch in half horizontally with a single, swift motion. This feature drastically cuts down on prep time, making assembly a breeze – perfect for busy weeknights or when preparing for a crowd.
- **Elevated Flavor Profile with Glaze:** The soft, slightly sweet texture of these rolls readily absorbs the incredible butter mustard glaze applied before baking. This sweet, buttery topping permeates the buns, adding a layer of rich flavor and a beautiful golden-brown finish that takes these turkey sliders to an entirely new level of deliciousness. The combination of the glaze and the Hawaiian rolls creates an unbelievably tender and flavorful bite every time.
- **Irresistible Texture:** The incredibly soft and fluffy texture of Hawaiian rolls provides a comforting embrace for the rich fillings, ensuring each bite is melt-in-your-mouth tender without being overly dense.

Essential Ingredients for Delectable Turkey Sliders with Cranberry Sauce
This simple yet satisfying recipe is an excellent solution for utilizing Thanksgiving leftovers, transforming them into a fresh and exciting meal. However, don’t feel limited to holiday remnants; all these ingredients are readily available at your local grocery store, allowing you to enjoy these sliders any time you crave them. Here’s a detailed look at what you’ll need to create these crowd-pleasing turkey cranberry sliders:
- **Unsalted Butter:** The foundation of our irresistible glaze, unsalted butter allows you to control the saltiness of the dish while providing a rich, creamy base that helps achieve that golden-brown finish.
- **Worcestershire Sauce:** This savory condiment adds a layer of umami depth to the butter glaze, enhancing the overall flavor profile of the sliders without overpowering the other ingredients.
- **Brown Sugar:** Essential for the glaze, brown sugar introduces a touch of molasses-rich sweetness that perfectly complements the savory fillings and the inherent sweetness of the Hawaiian rolls, creating a harmonious balance.
- **Dijon Mustard:** Offering a sharp, tangy kick, Dijon mustard in the glaze cuts through the richness of the butter and cheese, adding a sophisticated zest that brightens every bite.
- **Poppy Seeds:** These tiny seeds provide a subtle nutty flavor and a delightful textural crunch to the top of the rolls, making the glaze even more appealing.
- **Hawaiian Dinner Rolls:** The star of the show! As discussed, their unique sweetness and soft texture are crucial for the best slider experience. A 12-pack is typically perfect for a standard recipe batch.
- **Leftover Turkey or Turkey Deli Meat:** This recipe is a dream for repurposing cooked turkey. Shredded or diced leftover Thanksgiving turkey works wonderfully. If you don’t have leftovers, high-quality sliced turkey deli meat or pre-cooked chopped turkey from the grocery store makes an excellent substitute.
- **Provolone Cheese:** Known for its mild flavor and excellent melting capabilities, Provolone cheese binds all the delicious layers together, adding a creamy, savory dimension to each slider. Other great melting cheeses can also be used.
- **Cranberry Sauce:** The signature Thanksgiving flavor! Whether homemade or store-bought, the sweet and tart cranberry sauce provides a bright, fruity counterpoint to the rich turkey and savory stuffing, creating that iconic holiday taste.
- **Stuffing (Leftover or Freshly Made):** A crucial component for that authentic Thanksgiving experience. Leftover stuffing is ideal, but you can easily whip up a quick batch or use a good quality boxed stuffing mix if you’re making these outside of the holiday season.

Essential Equipment for Crafting Turkey Cranberry Sliders
Making these delightful turkey cranberry sliders requires only a few common kitchen tools, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable cooking experience. You likely have most of these items already:
- **Sharp Serrated Knife:** This is indispensable for neatly slicing through the delicate Hawaiian rolls without squishing them. A serrated edge is perfect for breads, ensuring clean cuts.
- **Mixing Bowl and Spoon:** You’ll need a small bowl to whisk together the components of the savory butter mustard glaze, and a spoon for thorough mixing.
- **Spatula:** A sturdy spatula will be helpful for carefully lifting and serving the sliders once they are baked, especially if they’ve become delightfully melty.
- **Measuring Cups and Spoons:** Accurate measurements are key for the perfect balance of flavors in the glaze and fillings. Standard sets will be sufficient.
- **Baking Sheet or 9×13 Baking Dish:** A large baking sheet with edges or a standard 9×13 inch baking dish is ideal for holding all 12 sliders in a single layer, ensuring even cooking and crisping of the buns.
- **Parchment Paper:** Lining your baking sheet with parchment paper is highly recommended. It prevents the sliders from sticking, makes cleanup incredibly easy, and helps ensure even heat distribution for a perfectly golden bottom crust.
- **Aluminum Foil:** You’ll use aluminum foil to cover the sliders during the initial baking phase. This helps to steam the rolls, melt the cheese evenly, and prevent the tops from browning too quickly before the fillings are thoroughly heated.
- **Pastry Brush (Optional but Recommended):** While a spoon can work, a pastry brush is ideal for evenly distributing the butter glaze over the tops and sides of each slider, ensuring maximum flavor and a beautiful sheen.

Step-by-Step Guide: How to Assemble and Bake Hawaiian Roll Turkey Sliders with Cranberry Sauce
Creating these scrumptious sliders is a straightforward process that yields incredibly delicious results. Follow these detailed steps for perfect turkey cranberry sliders every time:
- **Prepare Your Baking Setup:** Begin by preheating your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius). Line a 9×13-inch baking dish or a large cookie sheet with parchment paper. This crucial step prevents sticking and makes cleanup a breeze.
- **Craft the Signature Glaze:** In a small, microwave-safe bowl, melt the unsalted butter. For best results and to prevent splattering, cut the butter into smaller pieces and microwave in 10-second intervals until fully melted. Alternatively, melt it gently in a small saucepan on the stovetop. Once melted, stir in the Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, and poppy seeds until all ingredients are thoroughly combined. Set this flavorful glaze aside.
- **Prepare the Hawaiian Rolls:** Carefully remove the Hawaiian rolls from their packaging. Using a sharp serrated knife, slice the entire block of rolls horizontally in half, effectively separating the tops from the bottoms while keeping them connected. Place the bottom halves of the rolls evenly in your prepared baking dish.
- **Layer the Delicious Fillings:** Now comes the fun part – layering! On top of the bottom roll halves, arrange your ingredients in this specific order for optimal flavor and texture:
- First, a generous layer of **sliced or shredded turkey**.
- Next, spread an even layer of **cranberry sauce**.
- Follow with a hearty portion of **stuffing**.
- Finally, top with slices of **Provolone cheese**, ensuring good coverage.
Once all fillings are in place, gently position the top halves of the Hawaiian rolls back onto the sliders.
- **Pre-Cut for Perfection:** Before baking, use your sharp serrated knife to carefully cut the assembled block of sliders into individual squares. This proactive step is key; cutting after baking can sometimes squish the warm, soft buns and dislodge the fillings. Pre-cutting also allows the delectable butter glaze to seep down all sides of each slider, infusing every nook and cranny with flavor, not just the exposed tops.
- **Glaze and Bake:** Generously brush the prepared butter mustard sauce all over the tops and sides of the pre-cut sliders. Ensure every part of the bun is coated for maximum flavor and a beautiful sheen. Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is wonderfully melted and the fillings are heated through.
- **Achieve Golden Finish:** After the initial baking, carefully remove the aluminum foil. Return the sliders to the oven for an additional 5 minutes to allow the tops to turn a beautiful golden brown and slightly crisp up.
- **Serve Immediately:** For the absolute best flavor and texture, serve your hot and gooey Turkey Sliders with Cranberry Sauce immediately. Enjoy!

Creative Recipe Additions and Smart Substitutions for Your Turkey Sliders
This turkey slider recipe is incredibly flexible, allowing for delicious customizations based on your preferences or what you have on hand. Don’t hesitate to get creative!
- **Turkey Options:** While leftover Thanksgiving turkey is ideal for its rich flavor and texture, you have plenty of alternatives. High-quality deli turkey slices are an excellent choice for convenience. You can ask for them to be thinly sliced at the deli counter or purchase pre-chopped turkey packages. Another fantastic option is rotisserie chicken, shredded and seasoned, for a similar savory base if turkey isn’t available.
- **Cheese Varieties:** Provolone offers a classic, melty goodness, but feel free to experiment with other cheeses that complement turkey and cranberry. Havarti, with its buttery and slightly sweet notes, or mild Swiss cheese, are both superb choices that melt beautifully. For a richer, nuttier flavor, consider using Gouda. For a bit more tang, a sharp white cheddar could also work well.
- **Herbaceous Garnish:** Elevate the presentation and add a fresh aromatic touch by garnishing your baked sliders with fresh sprigs of rosemary and thyme. The warmth of the herbs beautifully complements the savory turkey and sweet cranberry.
- **Spice It Up:** For those who enjoy a little heat, a pinch of red pepper flakes mixed into the butter glaze or a thin layer of jalapeño slices added with the turkey can provide a delightful kick.
- **Add a Crunchy Element:** To introduce another layer of texture, consider adding a thin layer of crispy fried onions or even some crushed potato chips (savory flavor) on top of the stuffing before adding the cheese.
- **Different Sauces:** If you’re out of cranberry sauce or want to try something different, a dab of fig jam or even a spicy fruit chutney could offer an intriguing sweet and tangy alternative.

Frequently Asked Questions About Turkey Sliders with Cranberry Sauce
How Do I Store Leftover Turkey Sliders with Cranberry Sauce?
To keep your leftover turkey sliders fresh and delicious, allow them to cool completely before transferring them to an airtight container. Store them in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days. When you’re ready to enjoy them again, you have a few options: you can eat them cold for a quick snack, or reheat them for a warm and comforting meal. For reheating, the oven or air fryer works best to maintain their texture. Preheat either appliance to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius) and bake the sliders for about 10 minutes, making sure to cover them with aluminum foil to prevent drying out (do not use foil in the microwave). If using a microwave, reheat in short bursts until warmed through.
Can I Make These Sliders Ahead of Time?
Absolutely! These turkey sliders are fantastic for meal prepping and can be assembled the day before you plan to bake them. The beauty of this recipe is that the cranberry sauce is nestled between the turkey and stuffing layers, which helps prevent the rolls from becoming soggy. To prepare ahead, assemble the sliders in your baking dish, cover tightly with plastic wrap or aluminum foil, and refrigerate overnight. For the best results, wait to add the butter mustard topping until just before you’re ready to bake them. This ensures the glaze remains fresh and creates that perfect golden-brown crust.

Can I Freeze Turkey Sliders?
While some components of this recipe can be frozen individually (like cooked turkey or leftover stuffing), we generally don’t recommend freezing the fully assembled turkey sliders. The texture of the Hawaiian rolls, once thawed and reheated, can become somewhat soft or mushy, and the cheese might not have the same melty consistency. Instead, if you want to prepare ahead for future meals, freeze your leftover turkey and stuffing in separate freezer-safe bags or containers. Thaw them overnight in the refrigerator when needed, then assemble and bake your sliders fresh for the best possible taste and texture.
What Should I Serve with Turkey Cranberry Sliders?
Turkey Cranberry Sliders are a meal in themselves, but pairing them with the right sides can elevate the experience. For a lighter touch, a crisp green salad with a vinaigrette dressing provides a refreshing contrast. If you’re leaning into the Thanksgiving theme, a side of roasted sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, or a light broccoli salad would be perfect. For a more casual setting, consider serving them with a side of coleslaw, potato salad, or even some simple kettle chips. The versatility of these sliders means they pair well with a wide range of accompaniments.
Tips for Making Turkey Sliders for a Large Crowd
If you’re planning to serve these delicious sliders to a big group, you can easily scale up the recipe. Use multiple baking sheets or larger catering-sized pans. You can assemble several batches ahead of time, refrigerating them until ready to bake (remember to add the glaze just before baking). To keep them warm for serving, you can place the baked sliders in a slow cooker on a “warm” setting, lined with parchment paper, or arrange them on a platter and cover with foil. The individual cutting before baking makes serving a breeze for any party.
If you’re a fan of easy-to-eat, flavor-packed mini sandwiches, these Turkey Sliders with Cranberry Sauce are sure to be an undeniable hit at your next event. They’ll be a welcome addition to game day spreads, holiday parties, casual family dinners, or as an elevated twist on those cherished post-Thanksgiving sandwiches.
