If you’re a fan of Golden Retrievers, puppies, or dogs in general, you’re in for a treat as we dive into his latest adventures and watch him grow, week by week.
Our past week has been truly memorable, filled with both significant family celebrations and the everyday joys of puppy parenthood. From cheering on our favorite baseball team to exploring new hiking trails, Logan continues to fill our lives with laughter and unconditional love.

A Champion’s Welcome: Celebrating the Red Sox World Series Victory with Logan
This past week was monumental for any baseball fan, particularly those of us who passionately follow the Boston Red Sox. We are absolutely thrilled to report that our Red Sox clinched the World Series title! WOO HOO!! The city, and our household, erupted in celebration, and even Logan seemed to feel the festive energy, adding his own brand of puppy excitement to the atmosphere.
As many of you know from my initial post about Logan’s arrival, picking out his name was quite the adventure. My initial thought was to name him Benni, a tribute to the Red Sox outfielder, Andrew Benintendi, and a nod to our love for New England sports. However, my husband, Kurt, had a very specific rule: “He hasn’t won a championship yet, so we’re not naming him that or for any other player on the team.” Oh, BOO to that rule at the time! While I understood the sentiment, a part of me always hoped for a Red Sox win to validate my initial naming instinct.
Despite not being named after a Red Sox player, Logan was very much a part of our World Series experience. He joined us in watching Game 4, nestled comfortably by our side, his innocent puppy gaze occasionally flicking towards the screen. He only got a little (okay, perhaps a lot) startled by my enthusiastic screams and cheers during critical moments of the game. It’s quite amusing how our intense human emotions can sometimes surprise and bewilder our furry companions, making for some truly memorable family moments!

So, now that they’ve WON… Can we rename him?! Just kidding, of course! He is undeniably a Logan, and that name suits his charming personality perfectly. However, our daughter Emma’s suggestion to make his middle name Eovaldi, in honor of the incredible pitcher, definitely crossed our minds. It’s a fun thought and a sweet reminder of a fantastic victory that brought so much joy to our family. The bond we share with our pets often intertwines with our biggest life events, making them truly part of the family narrative.

Embracing Routine: Morning Walks, Evening Strolls, and the Benefits of a Structured Day for a Golden Retriever Puppy
We’ve continued our consistent routine of both morning and evening walks, which Logan absolutely adores. He especially enjoys tearing around the sand volleyball court at the local park, a burst of energetic play that is truly a sight to behold. Watching him sprint, dig, and roll in the sand is pure entertainment. In fact, there’s a charming video of him enjoying this very activity up on my Instastories. It’s the last delightful stop before we head back to the car, and I swear he anticipates it; his pace quickens and his tail wags furiously as we approach, a clear sign he knows exactly what’s coming!
Establishing a solid routine has been incredibly beneficial, not just for Logan but for Kurt and me as well. It’s quite humorous how this little Golden Retriever puppy has transformed our daily schedule. We’re now definitely heading to bed earlier and rising earlier in the morning, all thanks to him. And I must say, it’s a positive change! This new rhythm encourages us to get more sleep, promoting better overall health, and ensures I get out the door for the gym each morning – no excuses allowed! While I’m working out, Kurt takes Logan on his invigorating morning trail walk, fostering their bond and ensuring Logan gets plenty of physical and mental stimulation. Thank you, Logan, for boosting our wellness and bringing such a healthy structure to our days!

Weekend Wilderness: Logan’s Hiking Expedition to Clear Creek, Arizona
Our Saturday tradition continued this past weekend with a refreshing hike up north to Clear Creek, Arizona. Logan had another fantastic time, reveling in the freedom of the outdoors. He got to frolic in the cool water and was even able to chase a few interesting bugs, showcasing his natural canine instincts and endless curiosity. These weekly excursions are vital for his physical and mental stimulation, allowing him to explore diverse environments, encounter new scents, and develop his confidence in different terrains – all essential for a growing Golden Retriever puppy.

He was a bit apprehensive about the water again this time, as the current was quite strong, and there wasn’t an easily accessible spot for him to just wade in gently. Observing his hesitation, Kurt patiently walked into the creek himself, gently coaxing Logan to follow. It took a while, but with perseverance and Kurt’s comforting presence, Logan eventually joined him. To ensure his safety and prevent him from drifting with the current, Kurt held onto him firmly. We’re still unsure if he can swim proficiently yet, and we certainly didn’t want to discover that the hard way in a fast-moving creek! Introducing a puppy to water should always be a gradual and positive experience to build confidence.

This experience brought back vivid memories of our former dog, Keiser. When we first moved to New Hampshire, Keiser couldn’t swim right away either. It took some dedicated learning and gentle encouragement before he truly got the hang of it. For a while, he was more of a “sinker” than a swimmer, which always surprised me, as I had previously assumed all dogs were natural swimmers! Logan’s cautious approach reminds us that every dog is an individual with their own learning curve when it comes to new experiences, especially water activities. Patience and positive reinforcement are key in helping any puppy overcome new challenges.

Here he is in full Retriever mode, a pose that truly showcases his breed’s innate instincts. He heard something subtle on the other side of the creek – perhaps a rustle in the leaves or a distant critter – which immediately put him on high alert, ears perked, and gaze focused. It’s fascinating to watch his natural abilities come alive in the wilderness, reminding us of the rich heritage of the Golden Retriever breed as working dogs.

Later, he made a delightful discovery: an inchworm slowly traversing a leaf. Logan watched it intently for several minutes, his puppy curiosity piqued. I was genuinely surprised he didn’t try to investigate it with his mouth; instead, he simply observed with fascination, a quiet moment of natural wonder. These small interactions highlight the simple yet profound joys a Golden Retriever puppy finds in the world around him, showcasing their gentle and curious nature.

Puppy Milestones and Quirky Charms of a Growing Golden Retriever
Yesterday, after our usual park walk, Logan surprised us all by falling fast asleep in the car. What was truly incredible was the position he managed to contort himself into – I can’t even fathom how that could be comfortable for him! His ability to snooze in such odd angles always brings a smile to our faces. What makes this even more surprising is that our walk wasn’t particularly long, and I hadn’t run him extensively since I was in flip-flops. It just goes to show how quickly Golden Retriever puppies can switch from boundless energy to deep slumber, seemingly at the flick of a switch!

Last night brought another adorable puppy milestone: his very first taste of a carrot. His initial reaction was one of pure bewilderment. He wasn’t quite sure what this crunchy orange stick was, but he walked away proudly with it once I presented it to him. What followed was a comical display: he played with it in his mouth, rolled it around on the floor, took a few tentative little bites, but ultimately never finished the whole thing. It’s safe to say he wasn’t nearly as excited about carrots as our old dog, Brady, used to be! Brady would devour a carrot in seconds, a stark contrast to Logan’s cautious approach.
In fact, his curiosity even turned into a funny standoff; he growled and barked at the innocent carrot a couple of times, as if it were a strange, unfamiliar intruder in his space. It was a truly hilarious moment that reminded us how every puppy reacts differently to new tastes and textures, making each new experience a unique adventure in canine discovery.

This afternoon, we made a trip to the vet for some more routine vaccines, an essential part of responsible dog care. At just 16 weeks old, Logan now weighs a respectable 34 lbs! No wonder I’m finding it increasingly challenging to pick him up for cuddles. He’s growing so fast, a true testament to the rapid growth phase of a Golden Retriever puppy. I know there will come a day when he’s simply too big to be a lap dog, but I truly hope he continues his sweet morning ritual of climbing onto my lap. Those precious moments, filled with his comforting weight and soft fur, are undoubtedly one of the best parts of my day, a comforting start filled with pure puppy love.
