August 18th Edition

Welcome to this week’s special edition of our newsletter! It’s a bit longer than usual, not because I’m planning to inundate you with details, but because we’re making up for last week’s absence with a double dose of deliciousness and delightful updates. Get ready to dive into a treasure trove of new recipes, seasonal favorites, and a peek into what’s been happening in my kitchen and home.

On a personal note, I’m thrilled to share that Kurt and I celebrated our 34th wedding anniversary yesterday, August 17th. Reflecting on three decades and four years together feels surreal. On one hand, it’s hard to believe so much time has passed, marked by countless memories, laughter, and the nineteen moves we’ve made across the country, building a life together one home at a time. Yet, in another sense, it feels like a lifetime ago, given all the adventures and milestones we’ve shared. Through every chapter, every challenge, and every triumph, Kurt remains my steadfast best friend, the one who brings out my loudest laughs, and the only person I envision navigating life’s journey with. Our enduring partnership is something I cherish deeply, a testament to shared dreams and unwavering support.

To commemorate this significant milestone, Kurt surprised us with a brand-new couch! This is a monumental event in our household, as our previous couch served us faithfully for an incredible TWENTY-FIVE YEARS. Seriously, no exaggeration – it was an exceptionally well-built piece of furniture. Over its long tenure, it only required minor repairs, such as a leg mended years ago and a recently busted spring. This beloved couch journeyed with us through seventeen different homes and bore witness to our children growing from toddlers to adults. Saying goodbye to such a deeply ingrained part of our family life is undeniably bittersweet, akin to bidding farewell to an old friend. But, as the saying goes, out with the old and in with the new. Embracing change often brings renewed energy and comfort, and we’re excited for the fresh chapter our new living room centerpiece will bring. It’s more than just a piece of furniture; it’s a symbol of new beginnings and continued coziness in our evolving home.

Warmest hugs,

Favorite Kitchen Essential of the Week: The Salt Cellar

In case your kitchen isn’t already graced by one, allow me to introduce you to my salt cellar – it’s an item I wholeheartedly recommend for every home cook. Don’t worry, despite the name, it’s not a subterranean storage unit requiring house renovations! A salt cellar is simply a small, elegantly designed vessel or storage box specifically crafted to hold your salt, typically for easy access during cooking. It’s where I keep my kosher salt, and it proves incredibly handy whether I’m meticulously measuring salt for a baking recipe or simply adding a pinch to season whatever delicious creation is simmering on the stove. The open design allows for quick grabs, making seasoning an intuitive and enjoyable part of the cooking process, ensuring your dishes are perfectly seasoned every time. It’s a small change that makes a big difference in kitchen efficiency and adds a touch of charm to your countertop.

Wellness Wisdom: Our Tip of the Week

This week’s tip might not directly involve baking, but it touches upon something vitally important: our health and well-being. Many of us, myself included, often struggle with drinking enough water throughout the day. Staying adequately hydrated is crucial for energy levels, skin health, and overall bodily function, yet it often falls by the wayside amid our busy schedules. Fortunately, a clever solution was recently shared with me by a friend, and it’s been remarkably effective!

My friend, Lorie, has devised a simple yet brilliant system to ensure she meets her daily hydration goals. She keeps a small, decorative jar on her kitchen windowsill, accompanied by eight shiny pennies. Each time she refills her 18-ounce water bottle and finishes drinking it, she takes one of the pennies and places it into the jar. This visual cue serves as a constant reminder of her progress. What makes this method even more successful, she shared, is the playful involvement of her husband and kids. They’ve embraced the role of “hydration accountability partners,” often reminding her or cheering her on when they notice too many pennies still lingering on the windowsill. It turns hydration into an engaging, achievable goal rather than a chore.

If you’re looking for a simple, tangible way to boost your daily water intake, I highly encourage you to give Lorie’s penny jar method a try. It’s a low-tech, high-impact strategy that makes tracking fun and easy. Let me know what you think if you implement it!

I’m always eager to learn from your experiences! Do you have any clever tips, innovative hacks, or organizational strategies that have helped you become more efficient and organized in your own kitchen? Perhaps a unique approach to meal prep, a favorite time-saving gadget, or a brilliant storage solution? If you’re interested in sharing your wisdom with our wonderful community, and if your tip is selected to be featured in an upcoming newsletter, I’ll be sure to give you a first-name shoutout! We love celebrating the collective knowledge and creativity of our readers. ❤️
