  • ⅓ cup warm water (About 110°F.)
  • 1 ¼ cups granulated sugar (divided)
  • 5-6 cups all-purpose flour (divided)
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 cup whole milk (room temperature)
  • 4 large eggs (divided)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (melted, plus extra for greasing bowl and pans)
  • ¼ cup honey (for drizzling)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon of active dry yeast with the ⅓ cup warm water; let stand until foamy, about 10 minutes.

Allow the shaped dough to sit and rise (proof) for an additional 15 minutes. In a small bowl, whisk together the remaining 1 large egg and 1 tablespoon of water to create an egg wash. Brush this egg wash all over the surface of each loaf.
  8. Generously sprinkle the surface of both dough rectangles with the remaining ¼ cup granulated sugar, and artfully drizzle the ¼ cup honey all over each loaf.
