It is with immense joy and overflowing hearts that we officially introduce you to Logan!

We are proud to be partnering with Mitsubishi for this sponsored post. As always, all opinions are 100% my own and reflect our genuine experience.

Logan is our vibrant, 12-week-old red Golden Retriever puppy, and it’s an understatement to say that Kurt and I have absolutely fallen head over heels in love with him. From the moment he waddled into our lives, he’s captured our hearts completely. His playful spirit, boundless energy, and undeniable charm make every day an adventure.

Honestly, who could resist that face? There’s an undeniable magic about babies and puppies, and since the chapter of having human babies is happily behind us, we decided a furry addition was the perfect next step to fill our home with love and laughter. Logan truly is the next best thing, bringing a unique kind of joy and companionship that only a puppy can offer.

Just look at those soulful eyes and that endearing puppy grin! He has an incredible ability to make my heart melt with a single glance or a gentle nuzzle. His presence has brought a renewed sense of warmth and excitement into our home, reminding us of the simple pleasures that come with unconditional love and wagging tails.

Our Search for the Perfect Red Golden Retriever Puppy

Finding Logan was a journey in itself, one filled with anticipation and a bit of a treasure hunt. We located him in sunny California, east of Los Angeles, from a dedicated and reputable breeder. My search for a dark red Golden Retriever litter began at the start of summer, and initially, I was coming up empty-handed. It seemed many breeders primarily offered English Golden Retrievers with their distinct cream-colored coats.

While the English creams are undeniably beautiful, our family has always held a special affinity for the rich, deep red hue of the traditional American Golden Retriever. This preference is rooted deeply in our past experiences with the breed, as you’ll soon discover.

For those who have been long-time readers of 365, you might recall that we’ve been blessed with two wonderful red Golden Retrievers in the past, each leaving an indelible paw print on our hearts. Their memories shaped our desire to welcome another red Golden into our lives.

Remembering Brady and Keiser: Our Golden Retriever Legacy

Our first family dog was Brady, a magnificent red Golden Retriever who embodied everything wonderful about the breed. He was the epitome of a gentle giant, consistently happy-go-lucky, and possessed an infectious, fun-loving goofiness. Brady adored his walks, but his absolute favorite activity was going on spirited runs with Kurt, a ritual that brought them both immense joy. He was a loyal companion, a patient friend, and a cherished member of our family. Sadly, we had to say a heartbreaking goodbye to Brady in March of last year, leaving a significant void in our lives that only time and new love could begin to heal.

Brady-a Golden Retriever

A few years after Brady joined us, our daughter, Emma, wished for a Golden Retriever of her own. That’s when Keiser entered our lives. Though younger than Brady, Keiser quickly asserted himself as the playful alpha dog, despite Brady’s seniority and calm demeanor. Keiser was truly a lover, not a fighter, and his spirited personality brought a new dynamic to our home. He was always full of exuberance, constantly seeking attention and adventure.

Tragically, Keiser was only two and a half years old when we had to say goodbye to him in March 2015. He had been suffering from severe seizures, and despite extensive efforts and various medications, we were unable to control them. Losing Keiser at such a young age was devastating. Keiser was such a sweetheart – he loved to play endlessly with Brady, often tugging gently on his ears, and was always in full-speed mode on walks and hikes. His passion for being outdoors was unmatched, and he thrived on exploring every corner of our yard and beyond. His memory continues to inspire our love for the breed and reminds us of the fleeting, precious nature of every moment spent with our animal companions.

And now, with Logan, our home is once again filled with the heartwarming presence of a Golden Retriever. His arrival signifies a new chapter, built on the love and memories of those who came before him.

The Perfect Name: Logan’s Story

Choosing a name for our new furry family member was an exciting process, steeped in family traditions and personal passions. Being proud natives of New England and passionate fans of all our local sports teams, we naturally wanted to give Logan a name with a subtle nod to the Boston Red Sox. After all, if your first beloved dog was named after arguably the greatest quarterback of all time, you simply have to stick with that theme for subsequent pets!

We tossed around several names that paid homage to our favorite baseball team, considering Fenway, after the iconic ballpark, and Benny, inspired by the talented Andrew Benintendi. However, Kurt, with a keen interest in the breed’s origins, was particularly keen on a Scottish name, given that the Golden Retriever breed originated in the Scottish Highlands. After much deliberation and consideration, Kurt suggested “Logan.”

While Logan might not be a direct Red Sox player, it’s the closest we came to our desired Boston connection, as it’s the name of Boston’s main airport, Logan International. Ultimately, we both loved the name, and as Logan has settled into our home, it’s become abundantly clear that the name suits him perfectly. It’s strong, classic, and has a wonderful ring to it, just like our spirited puppy.

Logan’s First Road Trip: Comfort and Style in the Mitsubishi Outlander

The journey to bring Logan home was an adventure in itself, creating unforgettable memories for Kurt and me. We made two trips to California: the first, when he was just four weeks old, to choose him from an adorable litter of nine puppies, and then a few weeks later to finally bring our little guy home. Mitsubishi graciously partnered with us, providing their 2018 Outlander for Logan’s inaugural road trip, and we couldn’t have been more pleased with its performance and comfort.

The Outlander proved to be an excellent choice for such a long journey. The ride was incredibly smooth, making the extensive trip from California to our home remarkably comfortable for both us and our new puppy. What truly impressed us, and was particularly crucial for a new puppy, was the generous amount of legroom and cabin space. Mr. Logan felt completely at ease, safe, and secure, spending practically the entire journey nestled comfortably asleep at my feet. The vehicle’s spaciousness allowed him to stretch out and relax, minimizing any potential stress for his first big adventure. It was a testament to the Outlander’s family-friendly design, perfect for pet owners and long-distance travel alike.

Life with Logan: Settling In and Making Friends (Sort Of!)

Since his arrival home, Logan has adapted remarkably well to his new surroundings. He’s exploring every nook and cranny, brimming with the curiosity and energy typical of a Golden Retriever puppy. However, I can’t quite claim that he and our daughter’s cat, Winnie, are the best of friends just yet! It’s an ongoing process, to say the least. They’ve been engaged in quite a few lively chase scenes around the house, which, while entertaining, means I’m actively working on reeling them both in and encouraging them to interact calmly. It’s a challenge, but one we’re tackling with patience and a good sense of humor!

Wish me luck on that particular endeavor!
