A Mother’s Day Reunion: Family, Fur, and Unforgettable Memories
This past week was exceptionally special as all three of our children traveled to visit us in our cozy one-bedroom apartment. While it certainly made for a tight squeeze – especially with an energetic Golden Retriever puppy in the mix – the joy of having them all under one roof for Mother’s Day was immeasurable. As a full-time mom when they were little, Mother’s Day often brought a desire for a rare moment of solitude, perhaps a quiet afternoon at Barnes & Noble or an uninterrupted shopping trip. How times have changed! Now, with hundreds, if not thousands, of miles separating us for most of the year, the greatest Mother’s Day gift imaginable is simply their presence. Every shared laugh, every family meal, and every quiet moment together becomes a treasured memory, affirming that love truly knows no distance.

Exploring Rhode Island: Culinary Delights and Historic Tours with Our Furry Companion
Our family reunion was a fantastic opportunity to indulge in some Rhode Island favorites that the kids had been missing. We feasted on classic local dishes, savoring every bite of the unique flavors of the Ocean State. Beyond the culinary tour, we embarked on an unforgettable journey through history with a tour of The Breakers in Newport. This iconic Gilded Age mansion, with its stunning architecture and rich stories, provided a fascinating glimpse into a bygone era. Even Logan enjoyed the expansive grounds (from a distance, of course, as pets aren’t allowed inside!), soaking up the fresh air during our walks around the property. The celebrations continued with a lovely lunch alongside our extended family, honoring my nephew’s recent college graduation – a truly proud moment for everyone.
Evenings were filled with laughter and friendly competition as we immersed ourselves in card games. Wizard, a favorite strategy game, challenged our minds, while Cards Against Humanity brought out our silly sides, creating many memorable inside jokes. Naturally, Logan was always a part of the fun, whether he was playfully nudging a hand for attention or simply snoozing at our feet. His presence added an extra layer of warmth and joy to every activity. We also made sure to take Logan on plenty of walks, ensuring he got his daily dose of exercise and exploration. A highlight was a visit to the local beach, where Logan reveled in the sand and sea air, chasing imaginary waves and making new friends. Stopping by Grandma’s house was another cherished moment, as she showered Logan with affection and treats, cementing his status as a beloved member of the family.

Hitting the Trails: Hiking Adventures with Logan the Golden Retriever
Just yesterday, Kurt and I rekindled one of our favorite pastimes from our Arizona days: trail hiking with Logan. It felt wonderful to be back on the winding paths, surrounded by nature, with our energetic Golden Retriever leading the way. Logan absolutely adores our hikes, and his favorite activity without fail is carrying sticks – or perhaps I should say, small logs – with him as we trek along. It’s truly a sight to behold! He reminds us so much of his real-life brother, Indiana, who is equally enthusiastic about finding and parading around with impossibly long tree branches. The joy Logan exhibits when he’s got a prized stick in his mouth is infectious, and it makes every hike an even more delightful experience. These moments of shared adventure, exploring new trails and enjoying the simple beauty of the outdoors, are some of the most cherished aspects of having a dog like Logan.
A Game-Changer for Walks: The Best Harness and Leash for Your Big Dog
For those of you with energetic, large breed dogs like our Logan, you know the struggle of managing a powerful puller on a leash. At over 80 pounds, Logan, despite his sweet nature, has been something of a powerhouse, making our walks a bit of a challenging tug-of-war. After countless attempts with various leashes and collars, I decided it was time for a serious upgrade, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. We invested in the EXPAWLORER Big Dog Harness and the BAAPET 5Ft. Strong Dog Leash, and let me tell you, it has made an astronomical difference in his behavior during walks! Even our children, who often join us, were absolutely amazed at the immediate transformation.
The design of the EXPAWLORER harness is ingenious. Instead of putting pressure on his neck, it redistributes the pulling force across his chest. When Logan attempts to pull ahead, the design gently lifts his front legs slightly, prompting him to ease up on the tension. This isn’t harsh or uncomfortable; rather, it’s a subtle yet effective way to communicate “slow down.” The harness itself, while incredibly durable and secure, is surprisingly lightweight, allowing Logan to wear it comfortably without feeling burdened. He’s visibly more relaxed and enjoys his walks more, and so do we! We now have so much more control, transforming what used to be a stressful experience into an enjoyable stroll for everyone. If you’re struggling with a strong puller, I genuinely cannot recommend this harness and leash combination enough. It’s truly been a game-changer for our Golden Retriever, Logan, and has made our outdoor adventures significantly more pleasant and safe.
