As the leaves turn and a crisp chill fills the air, there’s a unique excitement buzzing, more profound than just the approach of Thanksgiving. Yes, Thursday is here, and Turkey Day is just a week away – a time for gathering, gratitude, and, of course, delicious food. And to anyone celebrating a birthday or anniversary on November 17th, a hearty Happy Special Day!
But beyond these wonderful daily milestones, there’s a larger, more exhilarating countdown underway that truly sets the stage for what’s to come. Prepare yourselves, fellow food enthusiasts and home bakers, because today marks Day 265 of the year! And if my calculations are correct – and I’m fairly confident they are – that means we have precisely 100 glorious days left in the year!
This isn’t just a number; it’s a declaration! One hundred days brimming with potential, with holiday cheer, and most importantly, with an abundance of culinary inspiration. This final quarter of the year is traditionally a time of feasting, celebration, and culinary exploration, and I, for one, am absolutely thrilled about what it signifies for this blog.
The Final 100 Days: A Culinary Horizon Expands
The prospect of these last 100 days fills me with an almost uncontrollable surge of energy and anticipation. Why such excitement, you ask? Because it’s a promise! A promise of MORE thrilling recipes to discover and share, MORE delectable food to create and enjoy, and ultimately, MORE sheer deliciousness to bring into our lives and kitchens. The festive season is nearly upon us, bringing with it endless opportunities for cozy comforts and celebratory dishes.
And here’s the truly groundbreaking news for our loyal readers: our culinary journey won’t be confined to just baked goods anymore! While baking remains a cherished passion and a core part of what we do here, the scope is expanding. Get ready for a delightful array of dishes that extend beyond the oven. And if that isn’t exciting enough, brace yourselves – we might even start featuring DRINKS! Imagine the possibilities: warming beverages for cold nights, festive concoctions for holiday gatherings, or refreshing sips to complement our meals. (Okay, I’m taking a deep breath and trying not to hyperventilate from sheer excitement.)
Forgive my boundless enthusiasm tonight; it’s been a day filled with wonderful distractions and blessings. A lively game on Facebook with dear friends, the beautiful chaos of my kiddos, the unwavering support of my wonderful husband, and simply living a blessed life – it all adds up to this bubbling energy! And speaking of blessings, I received another incredible one today!

Awarded by Pocket Change
Honored with the “Best Blog on Baking” Award
I am absolutely thrilled and deeply honored to announce that this blog has been recognized and awarded the “Best Blog on Baking” badge! While I couldn’t get the badge itself to center perfectly within the post (it currently sits gracefully to the left), rest assured, it’s proudly displayed on our sidebar as well, a constant reminder of this wonderful achievement.
This esteemed recognition came after being contacted by one of the editors at Pocket Change, which is a fantastic shopping blog directory hosted on Become.com. For those unfamiliar, Become.com is an incredibly interesting and comprehensive website that truly merits a visit. It’s a treasure trove for savvy shoppers and curious consumers alike, offering a wealth of product reviews and invaluable buying guides across a vast range of categories.
Exploring Become.com: A Resource for Every Shopper and Baker
Beyond general shopping, Become.com caters to incredibly specific interests through its diverse array of shopping blogs. Whether you’re in the market for men’s clothing, seeking inspiration for home furnishings, researching the latest electronics, or even looking for essentials for your babies or beloved pets, Become.com has a dedicated section for you. It’s a platform designed to empower consumers with knowledge, helping them make informed decisions and discover quality products and services.
And for us bakers, there’s a particularly invaluable resource: their dedicated Baking Tips page. This is something every single baker, from novice to seasoned pro, should take the time to familiarize themselves with. Understanding fundamental baking techniques, recognizing common terms used in recipes, and learning expert tricks can truly elevate your baking from good to extraordinary. Knowing what we’re doing and why we’re doing it is paramount to consistent success in the kitchen. For many of us, anyway! I still find myself unable to successfully “wing it” every time I attempt to, often learning valuable lessons from my improvisational experiments.
Therefore, my heartfelt thanks go out to Renuka, the editor who contacted me and presented this wonderful badge. Your recognition means the world to me. And an even BIGGER thank you, from the bottom of my heart, goes out to each and every one of my amazing readers! You are the lifeblood of this blog. Your continued readership, your comments, your shares, and your engagement motivate me more than you can ever possibly realize. If it weren’t for you, I honestly don’t know if I would continue this journey. You inspire me daily, and for that, I am eternally grateful. I love you all!
A Seasonal Treat Review: The Apple Cider Pudding Cake
Today, in the spirit of autumnal flavors and seasonal baking, I put together an Apple Cider Pudding Cake. Now, let’s clarify the name: it’s not made with traditional pudding. The “pudding” aspect comes from the delightful transformation that occurs when a generous amount of apple cider is poured directly over the cake batter just before it goes into the oven. This ingenious technique results in an incredibly moist bottom layer, infusing the cake with a deep, comforting apple flavor and a wonderfully tender texture.
However, I must disclose that I do not have permission to post the full recipe directly here. I originally discovered this recipe on About.com, and the only modification I made was a simple addition of oats to the streusel topping. While this tweak certainly added a nice textural element, it’s not substantial enough for me to claim the recipe as my own adaptation. Nonetheless, I wanted to share the process and the results of this seasonal bake with you.
Behind the Scenes: Ingredients and Process
Despite some photographic challenges – a surprising number of pictures came out blurry, much to my chagrin! – I’ve curated the best of the bunch to give you a visual journey through the making of this Apple Cider Pudding Cake. You’ll see the crisp apples, the rich brown sugar, the comforting spices, and of course, the star ingredient: fresh apple cider, ready to transform the batter.
The process images will guide you from the initial preparation of ingredients, through the mixing of the cake batter to a smooth consistency, the moment the fragrant apple cider is gently poured over the top, and finally, the assembly with the crumbly oat streusel before baking. Each step is designed to build anticipation for the final, warm, and inviting dessert. While the photos may not be perfectly crystal clear, they capture the essence of home baking – real kitchens, real processes, and the occasional photography mishap!

My Honest Verdict: Two Rolling Pins
As is customary here, I rate everything I bake on a scale of 1 to 4, with 4 being the absolute best, a recipe I’d make again and again. This particular Apple Cider Pudding Cake, after careful consideration and tasting, earned a rating of 2 rolling pins. This places it firmly in the “just okay” category.
While the concept was intriguing and the moistness achieved by the apple cider was certainly commendable, it simply didn’t “rock my world,” so to speak. It lacked that distinctive ‘wow’ factor or craveable quality that makes a dessert truly memorable. It wasn’t bad, by any means, but it also wasn’t something I feel compelled to make again in the near future. It hit the mark for an autumn-themed dessert, but perhaps not for a standout holiday showstopper.
I had fresh apples on hand and a carton of apple cider in the fridge, making it a convenient and worthwhile experiment. Sometimes, you try a recipe because the ingredients are calling to you, and that was certainly the case here. However, having experienced it now, I believe next time I’ll reserve the apple cider for drinking, perhaps warmed with a cinnamon stick, and stick to a simpler pleasure: spreading a generous dollop of peanut butter on a crisp, fresh apple. Sometimes the classics are classics for a reason!
This experience, however, only fuels my desire to find those truly exceptional recipes, especially as we venture into these exciting 100 days of new culinary adventures. It’s all part of the journey!
