It’s been quite a whirlwind since our last update, and I apologize for the radio silence! Life behind the scenes has been exceptionally busy, beginning with a two-week bout of the flu that left me completely out of sorts. Thankfully, I’m now fully recovered, with just a lingering cough, and Kurt miraculously managed to avoid catching it. This illness was just one chapter in a month packed with significant events, including preparations for a potential move, extensive travel, and a memorable road trip with my wonderful husband.

Our recent road trip took us on an exploratory journey through North and South Carolina. The primary motivation behind this adventure was to investigate more affordable housing markets. While Rhode Island holds an incredibly special place in our hearts and has always been home, the cost of living and real estate prices have soared to truly extravagant and often unreasonable levels. We’re actively exploring options where we could potentially purchase a home without the exorbitant price tag currently attached to properties here in New England.

During our travels, we thoroughly explored various coastal areas of South Carolina. However, it was the charming Chapel Hill region of North Carolina, and particularly the delightful town of Carrboro, that truly captured my imagination. I was instantly captivated by the picturesque countryside, dotted with historic farms, charming old houses, and the unmistakable tranquility of a close-knit, small-town community. The lush landscapes and welcoming atmosphere felt incredibly appealing.

Despite my deep affection for the Chapel Hill area, there’s a significant consideration: its distance from the ocean. At approximately two and a half hours away, it’s a considerable drive from the coast. This poses a unique dilemma for me because, despite my personal dislike for sand, the beach has always been my ultimate happy place – a source of calm and rejuvenation. The thought of being so far removed from the soothing presence of saltwater gives me pause.

This journey is far from over, and we have many more potential locations to explore before making any definitive decisions. Who knows, perhaps our future will involve becoming “snowbirds,” allowing us to enjoy the best of both worlds – spending nine months of the year in our beloved Rhode Island, surrounded by family and friends, and then migrating elsewhere for the colder three months. Rhode Island isn’t just a location; it’s deeply ingrained in my heart, a sentiment shared by every family member and friend who makes it home. This balancing act of seeking new opportunities while cherishing our roots is an ongoing adventure, and I’m excited to see where it leads us next.
